May 4, 2018 – Mike Swenson and Lee Raush spoke about the 100th Anniversary celebration by the LaCrosse Downtown Rotary Club, Growing Hearts Across the World. They want to establish the Cameroon Garden at the International gardens near Riverside Park. They hope our club will consider giving $500 to be a co-sponsor and encourage every Rotarian to give something to the project. Donations to to Rotary Works (in a pass-through account).
May 11, 2018 – Jason Wiebke, representing the Caledonia Dugout Club, spoke about this booster club for the Caledonia High School baseball team. They are raising funds to build a covered bleacher, press box, and storage area for the baseball fields. They have raised about 3/4 of the estimated cost and are ready to dig footings and pour concrete. They hope to finish the project by July.
May 18 2018 – Aimee Welscher and her sister, Rotarian Arien O’Heron, have opened the Pine Cone Place in conjunction with their business, Mary Ann’s Floral. Aimee does the flowers and Arien takes care of the gifts and does bookkeeping. They have both wedding and baby registries
May 25, 2018 – Dan Oehmigen from Beaver Creek Valley State Park spoke about their work at the park. They have been trying to rid the park of invasive species such as buckthorn, honeysuckle, and multiflora rose. The park has 8 miles of hiking trails and campgrounds. They have had increased traffic in the last 5 years. About 80% of the visitors come from the Twin Cities. Camping season runs from April to October 31st. The camp is open year round.
