December 1 – Gina Meinertz, Caledonia Elementary Principal, shared her experience as an exchange teacher in Dubna, Russia a few years ago. Dubna is a city of math and science. Some of her impressions include small apartments, bumpy roads, much use of trains, and a lot of birch trees.

Tactacam representatives spoke about their business and the products they manufacture and sell. This was followed by a tour of their facility. They make cameras that fit on a gun or bow to capture the thrill of hunting and seeing wild animals.

Todd Eber and Steve Reiman captured 150 years of the W. A. Roosevelt Company in their presentation. Steve’s great great grandfather, W. A. Roosevelt, arrived in La Crosse in 1855. He was a steam fitter. In 1868 he opened a steam fitting and plumbing service. Steve became president in 1988 until 2005. Todd Eber took over the business in 2007.

Dave Walter, Root River Soil and Water District manager, spoke about some of the programs carried out by the district. They include the Envirothon (conservation day), reconstruction of wetlands, Hokah Wetland Bank, Canadian Pacific Railroad derailment cleanup, cedar tree revetment at Riceford Creek, streambank repair, stream water assessment, rock crossings, manure storage and feedlot roof structures, and prescribed burns.
