April 5, 2019– Nancy Runningen, President-Elect, and Ashley Dress, President-Elect nominee, reported on PETS conference. We need to address the root cause of membership loss. It may require creating a new model for clubs. We need to emphasize family. The president needs support from members so the role of president isn’t overwhelming.
Rotary theme: Rotary Connects the World
Some things Nancy will stress in 2019-2020 : importance of connection with other clubs, have a membership chair, use of social media, and have fun.
They distributed the Rotary Healthy Club Check for members to complete. They will report the findings at the end of the month.
April 12, 2019 — Jonathon McKenzie, Development Officer of Gundersen Medical Foundation and member of Rotary East, spoke about Gundersen’s Global Partners program and his trip to Costa Rica as part of Rotary and Gundersen. He, along with 16 others, traveled to Costa Rica to distribute eyewear. A grant from the Rotary Works Foundation helped to purchase eyewear to give to those who needed them.
Global Partners works in South Dakota (Pine Ridge and Rosebud reservations), Ethiopia, Nicaragua, and at home.
April 19, 2019 – Joannie Schmidt gave her classification talk. She grew up near Eitzen, MN. Her husband is Kevin and they have two children ages 9 and 7. She is a nursing supervisor at Mayo Health System. She goes to clinics in Caledonia, LaCrescent, Waukon, and Prairie du Chien. She is an EMT in Caledonia and trains other ambulence crews in the area.
April 26, 2019 – Nancy Runningen, President Elect, reported the results of the survey she gave us at the beginning of the month. This will be used as a planning tool for our club for the next year.
