Rob Thoen, Veterans’ Service Officer, told us that the VA is trying to do a better job for women in the military.  Because of the number of women veterans, homelessness of vets is not only a men’s problem but women’s as well.  Often women have children so the VA is trying to develop a system for caring for them, too.  There are about 3000 VA clients in Houston County.

Pree Amin, manager of MaCalGrove Golf Course, spoke about the direction he and his wife, Kristy, will be steering the  golf course.  Emphasis is on community involvement.  The golf course needs community support.  The facility is open to all.  Some things that Pree and Kristy are doing and want to do include:

Building a walking/running path around around the perimeter of the course.  They have applied for a grant for signage to mark the path.  This will be free and open to anyone.

Open the clubhouse as a place to eat.  It won’t be a restaurant, but will will serve lunches from 11 to 2 on Wednesday through Sunday and dinners beginning at 4 p.m.  Menus will be based on sandwiches and burgers.

Building a volleyball court area which can be flooded in the winter for ice skating.
